On the 23rd August 1305, William Wallace was executed at Smithfield in London, found guilty of treason by the court of Edward I - a charge which he vehemently denied on the basis that he could not commit treason against a king who was not his own. Seven hundred years later, the local community organised a commemorative event, for which Tournée were contracted to organise the re-enactment event.

LANARK MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL 2008

Scotland's History Festival

After the successful events in 2005-2007, this event returns for 2008 on its expanded site at the Old Racecourse. In addition to the period of the Scottish Wars of Independence, the event will also include the period of The Vikings, showing the huge influence of the Norse world on the fledgling Kingdom of Scotland, and also a presentation of the Roman influence on Scotland.

A dedicated public website for the event is now available, containing information for the public and potential traders at the event. This section is intended for re-enactment participants.

You are invited to come and join the Scottish and English armies at this major weekend.

The main attractions include :-

  • Battle re-enactments under the control of Tournée
  • Archery displays and competitions
  • Authentic and Non Authentic Traders Camps
  • Demonstrations
  • Music
  • Catering
  • Large craft & speciality food/drink street market

Facilities include security, camp site, reserved toilets, first aid, etc.

This year on 16th & 17th of August, a crowd in excess of 10,000 is expected for what has now become an annual event. Lanark is just an hour north of Carlisle, minutes off the M74.
